As part of the ongoing Erasmus+ SustainEBuild project eight students and two teachers from Ciutat de l'Aprenent in Valencia, Spain, participated in a week-long mobility in Bruges, Belgium, hosted by Vrij Technisch Instituut Brugge from 5–9 May 2025.
This visit was part of Activity 2: Intervention Design and Development, where students from both partner schools worked collaboratively to design energy-efficient renovations for an existing building.
A Week of Learning, Collaboration, and Culture
The week began with a warm welcome and a tour of VTI Brugge. Spanish and Belgian students got to know each other through activities like a Kahoot quiz on Belgian culture and joint groupwork sessions.
Key highlights of the week included:
A guided tour of VTI Brugge’s new energy-efficient campus, and time to explore Bruges and Brussels.
A site visit to Veemarkt Brugge to explore real-world examples of energy-efficient construction.
Group projects comparing insulation methods in Belgium and Spain, with students collaborating to develop design plans.
Hands-on sessions in VTI Brugge’s workshops, where Belgian students introduced their Spanish peers to local construction techniques, including bricklaying.
Guided tours and site visits provided insight into sustainable career pathways in the construction sector.
Looking Ahead
This mobility was not only an educational experience—it was a meaningful opportunity for cross-cultural exchange and international teamwork. The students gained practical knowledge in energy efficiency while developing professional and interpersonal skills that will serve them in future careers.
Stay tuned for updates as students from VTI Brugge will soon travel to Valencia for the next phase—implementing the renovation designs!
